I own a couple websites and blogs that I maintain, and write on a variety of topics. I travel while I do this (though not all are about traveling), and one thing I’ve noticed is that the Internet is different in every country. Sure, there are some things you probably expected – stuff like language settings, and maybe some Google search results. But there are is also the problem on Internet censorship. In countries like The USA, Canada, and Western Europe (including The UK), you haven’t got much to worry about. The only sites that are blocked are related to terrorism, violence, or inappropriate streaming video, and those things probably aren’t going to help your website much. However, in some places in The Middle East, Asia, and Africa, you’ll find that the Internet is slightly crippled. You can change this if you get a US IP address. Here’s what I mean. For example, Facebook is blocked in Egypt. A lot of what I post on my blogs and websites have links leading back to Facebook, so when it is blocked, I can’t link to it. For example, if I make a link in my blog saying, see the pics of the Egypt ion pyramids on my Facebook wall, and I’m unable to access the site, I can’t make the link (seeing as I haven’t memorized it). Also, some WordPress sites and widgets are blocked in Southeast Asia and China. Some of them have to do with social bookmarking, sharing news, and connecting, which is the opposite of what governments of these regions want. THere are many more tools like this online, and you never know when you’ll run into one that’s blocked. You can expect that you’ll get no explanation, or a vague and unsatisfying one, so you’ll be out of luck, unless you take matters into your own hands. So how do you get an American IP?You can get a US IP address by using a VPN. Virtual private networks use a variety of technology, which is unimportant to understand. The point is that it works, even in China and Iran, which have the strictest Internet censorship in the world. Through this technology, which can be installed on your phone as well as computer, you can use an IP address from any country that has VPN servers that your VPN service owns. This is of course not limited to The US, and other places like Canada, The UK, and other places in Western Europe will get you the same freedom.
